Final Magazine

These are my final magazine features, which includes a front cover, contents page and double page spread. I feel that all these aspects of a magazine that i have created myself, have succeeded in the best presentation, establishing the music genre, and also attract my audience that i have aimed my music magazine at.
I created my front cover for my magazine on Microsoft publisher, because didn't have programs such as photoshop and my computer at home, however i feel that i still seceded in creating a music magazine front cover. On my front cover i used the main magazine conventions such as a masthead, headline, subhead lings, a main image, dates, price, websites, bar code, colour schemes, all that is needed to create a successful front cover for my music magazine. The main image is in black and white, i decided to edit the photograph black and white because i think it would give contrast and create a good affect. I wanted to main text to be colourful instead of the picture, which i think i was successful in doing this, by using 3 different colours, black, white and red. I also think the layout of my front cover is successful in making everything on the page clear, so that it was easy for the audience to understand and notice. It also allowed the main image to stand out from the page, which shows the main artist and feature of my magazine.
The contents page, that i have chosen to be my final contents page was also created on Microsoft publisher, again because i didn't have programs such as photoshop to create it on. I feel like this contents page could be made better on a different program, but it was unavailable to me at the time. But still, i believe this contents page is successful in its purpose of giving out information to the audience about that is included in the magazine. On my contents page, i used conventions of what i need to make a successful contents page, these included a list of what was included in the magazine and also a title of the page, in this case i used 'contents'. I also used one main image on the contents page, with was an original one i took my self, i edited it in the page, with a black background, i did this by cutting out the model from the background, which makes the photograph stand out from the page.
I also created a double page spread using Microsoft publisher, this was harder to do because i needed to find out how you create a double page spread on publisher. Once i found out how to do it i started creating my double page spread by using the main conventions of a double page spread. I used two different images on my double page spread, one at the left hand side page and a smaller one at the top of the right hand side page, by doing this is created variety but also allowed me to use more of the original photos i took. I also created an interview to go on the left hand side page, underneath the picture, this took two columns up, which was the wright amount of text that would be included in an actual short interview with a celebrity. The colour i used for my double page spread, were different from the ones i used on the front cover and contents page, this again created variety by the different colours used. The colours i used in particular for my double page spread were pink, white and black. The pink brought back the feminine aspect of the artist gender, because it wasn't stated on the front cover by using darker colours such as red. I used a main headline and a subheading on the double page spread. the headline reads the name of the artists featured which is 'Gemma Love' and also the subheadings reads 'she speaks out about her new fame'. which are the main conventional aspects used on a double page spread in a magazine.
Overall i think i was sucessful in creating a front cover, contents and double page spread using publisher. I think i have used all the main conventional aspects that would be found in magazine therefore have created a good magazine that would be sucessful in attracting the audience of my magazine, and estbalishing the music genre in a presentable way.

Evaluation

In what ways does your Media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The music magazine I produced, followed the main conventions that any other product that has the same aims would. I learnt the main conventions of magazine whilst reasearching other music magazines and anaylising them, to see what they all included to make the magazine sucessful. All the magazine i looked at during this task were music magazine, because this a music magazine was what i aimed to produce. My front cover was made up of conventional features that would be found on any other music magazine, these are features such as, a masthead, a photograph, main headlines, sub-headlings, plugs, barcodes, price, issue number. My double page spread and contents pages also consist of all these conventions that would be found in a music magazine. The contents pages included conventions such as photography, a list of features that were included in the magazine, page numbers so the reader can find them easily and article titles. These features were also found on my double page spread, conventional aspects such as how a layout is presented in other magazines, edited photography and a headline.

How does your Media product representparticular social groups?
The social group i chose to represent in my magazine, is mainly young females that are solo artists or members of bands. Young female solo aritst have been represented through my orginal images that i have taken, i chose to do this so that it would appeal to my audience. Through my orignal photographs, i portrayed young females as happy and modern by giving a relax atomosphere, so the model could put the mood i wanted across the audience. Which could reflect on the audiences mood, i also wanted to represent the model in photographs as being fashionable and strong, i did this by styling the model to the mood of the magazine, so that it would give the audience someone as a role model to look up to. Props were used such as the guituar the model was playing during photography, i did this so that the audience what portray the featured artist to be talented and give off a good impression to the audience, and gives a positve representation of the music industry.

What kind of Media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A media distrutor which may publish my music magzine, may be an insitute such as EMAP, they have published magazine such as smash hits, which i think could be compared to my magazine, because they have chosen the same genre music but for an older age group, however smash hits, is more for a younger age group. But still they both 'smash hits' and 'flawless' focus on the same music genre, as they would still feature the same bands and artists. Therefore this publisher may be interested in distributing my product.

Who would be the audience for your Media product?
The audience i aimed by music magazine at would be both male and females, however in this particular issue that i produced, a female is featured in the cover therefore it might appeal to female audience, that would like to know more about the featured artist. The audiences age my magazine is aimed at are between the ages of 16-24 years old, which allows me to explore matters in much detail that i would be able to for a childrens magazine. However i would like people of any age group to enjoy my magazine, if they are interested in the particular genre of music that i have represented and promoted.

How did you attract/address your audience?
To make my magazine appeal to my target audience, i used different techinques to attract them. For example, i wanted my magazine to seem mature but fun at the same time, i represented this mood by the use of layouts and colour schemes for example, i used a range of different colours throughout my front cover, double page spread, and contents. On my front cover i used red, black and white, this gave it a relax mood and the colour red stood out from the main image background, which i think worked well. The double page spread colour scheme i used, was pink and white, which again stood out from the black background. Then on the contents page i used pink and yellow, which was a contrast in colour but still worked well. By doing this i created a happy and good mood that my music magazine gave off, this would appeal to my audience age and gender. The language i used, was stereotypically the language that a magazine would use, such as informal and chatty, so that it wouldnt seem like an upper class magazine for an upper class audience. The language used would also make the audience alot more comfortable with reading the magazine, and the langage is something that ages 16 - 24 would understand.
I also think that a styled the model well in the photograph, and also edited the image well to create the effect that i wanted to achieve. The way the model is styled is appealing to girls of her age and it is something that they would style them selves on, eg hair, make up and clothing. The way the photograph is edited sets to mood and expressions of the model, with i think looks very professional. On my contents page and double page spread i also used the same styled photographs which were black and white which created a rustic but classy effect, which i think would appeal to a young audience, therefore helps the magazine succeed.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Whilst carrying out this task, i feel that i have learnt a number of new skills from using the technologies that were provided for me for example using photoshop, editing photographs and using publisher. I have also learnt alot about the technologies of making a magazine through conventions that would be within a magazine, but i have learnt More about music magazines in particular, and the techniques they use to appeal to there target audience. I have developed my skills is editing photographs i used on my magazine, how to create the effect that i wanted without being to drastic. The programs i used to create magazine, also give me the opportunity to explore the features that are included in it.

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Producing the college magazine which was a task that was giving to us as part of the preliminary task, by creating this college magazine, it gave me some further knowledge and skills i needed to create the main music magazine task. The skills i learnt through the preliminary task made me more confident about creating my music magazine, such as exploring to take more extragvangant, individual photographs, exploring with different colour schemes, and choosing texts and languages that would suit my music magazine genre. I have also developed alot more understanding of the main magazine conventions, and how they are used to make the magazine much more sucessful to the targetted audience.

Contents

I have produced 3 different contents pages to go into my music magazine 'Flawless'
Two of these contents pages have the same layout but i have used a different colour schemes to see which looked best. Then I created another one which was a totally different layout, it is simple and easy to read than the other two, which i think is an advantage. I have also used one main image at the right hand side of the page, which i havnt used on the first two contents pages.

This time i will not ask people which one they like the best, and the one i feel is sucessful in doing its purpose within the magazine. I think the first two contents pages, fufill in informing what is in the magazine in a much different layout, however i dont like they fit in with the genre and mood of the magazine. Contents page 3, however i think is different in its own way, and the main image adds the mood to the magazine, and also tells the audience about who is featured in the magazine. The way the listings are set out on this contents page, is simple but easy to read.

Double Page Spread

Double Page Spread 1

Double Page Spread 2

Double Page Spread 3

Double Page Spread 4

I have produced 4 double page spreads for my music magazine. The first two double page spreads are the same layout but in different colours, this allowed me to explore and try different colour schemes to see which one looks best and which suited the magazine. The second two are both different layouts and different colour schemes, which again allowed me to see which looked best. I have used 2 different images on all of my double page spreads which varies and makes changes to them all.
I have narrowed them down to two double page spreads in which i prefer, these are double page spread 2 and 3. Iv chosen these because i think they look best and have both have different styles, layouts, fonts, and colour schemes, which gives a big contrast.
The reasons why i haven't chosen 1 and 4 is because i think 1 has the same colour scheme as the front cover, and i want my magazine to have a variety of colours, and i think double page spread 2 does this, but not drastically. Double page spread 4, i think is two plain, and only one image is used on it, and much of it takes over the page which doesnt give off variety and makes it plain.
Now that i have chosen two double page spreads that i like, and have advantages. I have to decide on my final double page spread, i will do this by asking 6 people to see which one they prefer, and then the one with the most votes will be the final double page spread

Double Page Spreads

#3 /

Most of the people I asked, chosen number 2, as the best double page spread, therefore this will be my final double page spread for my magazine.

these are my results:

Planning For Music Magazine

Genre
After researching different music magazines, which explore the different genres of music throughout the music industry, I have finally come to an conclusion of doing a pop and gossip music magazine. I have taken an interest in this particular genre because I listen to quite a lot of pop music, from artists such as Britney spears, Beyonce, Lily Allen and Lady GaGa. By choosing a genre that i enjoy gives me an advantage of exploring and creating something that i would enjoy reading my self.

Audience
The target audience I am going to aim my magazine at are teenagers aged 16, to young adults aged 23. This gives me a chance to introduce artist that are popular with this age group, Such as Britney Spears or Lady GaGa, and create an artist of my own, similar age and style to other artists of this genre. Because of these artist are all women, my main gender of the audience will be women however hopefully men will take an interest. It will catch women's interest by including this that they enjoy reading such as the latest gossip of celebrities, new and upcoming artists of the music genre, fashions the artists are wearing, and interviews from the artists featured in the magazine.

Featured Artist
I have chosen to feature an artists which will be new and upcoming. I am modeling my artist on the artists of the pop genre, again like Britney and Beyonce. Therefore my artist will be one women, aged 20 -25. By choosing this type of artist, it gives the audience someone they can relate to and have an interest in. To advertise this new artist, I will be featuring her on the front cover of the magazine, and on a double page spread, were she will be doing an interview with the magazine I will also do tour dates of this artist.

Masthead ideas
Magic -I think 'magic' would be a good name for a magazine as it is short, and catchy so that audiences would be able to remember it, however it has no reference to music or the music industry, but there is already a music radio station called 'magic'. So this name has its disadvantages.

Fusion- 'Fusion' is one of my favorite names for my magazine, it is short and catchy and has some relation to music, as it is the name of a type of genre, however it is not the music genre that I am focusing on, which is the disadvantage of this name.

Electric - 'Electric', I think would be a good name for a music magazine. It gives an exciting aspect to the magazine, and could be referred to music genre. It is short and catchy, and would make the magazine stand out, however it doesn't seem to be the right word for a girly, pop music magazine.

Bubblegum- 'Bubblegum' can also be refereed to bubblegum pop, a type of music genre. It is fun and quirky, and would suit this genre of magazine, however i think that it is too immature for my magazine, and would be better on a magazine of a younger target audience.

Fierce- 'Fierce' is also one of my favorite ones. I think it is short and catchy, and shows the attitude and personality that the gender audience may have, towards music and gossip. I have also chosen this because of the artist Beyonce's new album is called 'I am Sasha Fierce'. I think that it is a good way of relating an artists album names to a music magazine, giving it an edge

Flawless- I think that this particular name would be good for my genre of magazine. It relates to sound, dancing, and looking good, which are all aspects that will be included in my magazine. It is catchy which make the audience remember the name.

I have narrowed the masthead ideas down to three names, which are Fusion,Fierce and Flawless. Iv chosen these for there own advantages, that will help improve my magazine and state to the audience that it is a pop music magazine. I will know look at font types of both names, to see which one looks the best, in a magazine style fonts.

Fonts For 'FUSION'

Fonts for 'Fierce'

Fonts For Flawless

Concluding the name for my magazine.

I have chosen these particular fonts, I have picked out from http://www.dafont.com/. Which means they are not necessarily going to be used on my magazine, but it has helped me imagine and give me a brief ideas of what they will be like, and the choice of the colour schemes.
Whilst choosing fonts, and seeing how they look, I have chosen the final masthead for my music magazine, which is going to be Flawless, I have chosen this name because it is related to music and sound, and can be related to apperance, which is a stereotypical interest that the gender audience may have. I think this is the best name which is well suited for my music magazine.

Ideas for my images

These images are what I am going to model my own images on. I want my image to be either a close up shot showing just the face and shoulders or a medium shot showing the face and the upper half of the body. I have chosen this particular shot because it focuses on the face, and for a new upcoming artist they need to be recgonised to be sucessful, therefore showing the face will do this.

Textual Analysis Of Contents Pages

This contents page is part of the magazine NME. It is very busy and colourful, which makes it stand out.
The NME logo is shown at the top left hand corner of the page, to refer to the front cover of the magazine, which is a constant reminder to the audience what magazine they are reading. The colour scheme on this page is very different, the background of the page is white, were as the texts are different colours, for example red, black, pink and purple texts. This creates a mood for the magazine and also shows the genre of music it features. The contents is separated into different sections on the page. There is a bigger, longer list running down the left hand side of the page, which makes searching for an article alot easier than if it was dotted around the page. The main stories in the magazine are highlighted and are made much more colourful and bigger than the rest of the contents, by doing this it catches the readers eye, so they go directly to the article to read it. By using the different sections in the contents, it creates a the effect of alot more contents, therefore much more in the magazine, which will make the audience think that they are getting much more for there money and from the magazine. A subscription advertisement, in the left hand bottom of the page which reads 'Subscribe today and save over £45' . This is used in yellow text which stands out from the rest of the page because that colour has not been used on it more than once. It gives the magazine an opportunity to get more costumers to make sales. There is not one main image on this contents page, which is unusaly however there are three small images that relate to what is being mentioned in the contents listings and features.

This contents page is part of the magazine 'Rolling Stone'. We know this because the logo is shown in the top left hand cover which reads 'RS' this stands for Rolling Stone. This contents page consists of one main image which is placed at the left hand side of the page, and runs into the middle of the page, leaving a small place for the contents of the magazine to be, running down the right hand side of the page. The main image refers to the main article of the magazine which feautres the singer Kanye West. The image of him is performing at a concert, and it reads 'Kanye's Big Return' this tells us about what the article is about. The colour of the background is white, which contrast the colour of the picture, which is mainly dark colour such as red.
It also allows the text to be seen on the white background with black text.

Textual Analysis Of Double Page Spreads

This is a double page spread featured in the NME music magazine, along side of the NME front cover i analysed. The main focus of this double page spread is the image of Lilly Allen' and the quote, which has been pulled out of the interview which she has featured in underneathe the quote and image. The colours used on this double page spread,
The colours used, are plain and simple. However it gives an good aspect on the double page spread because it is bright and eyecatching, grabbing the readers attention. The background of the double page spread is all white. The pull out quote is much more eye catching, because the quote is placed on a black background with white font presented. The interted colours are used to catch the readers attention, make the page stand out, and the quote that has been pulled out of the interview, giving it it's importance. The main image, of Lily Allen is in colour which also makes a big contrast on the page, wearing red, it makes her stand out from the page, however makeup that is used on Lily makes her pale, making her face almost white. Lily's hair colour also appears much darker than it would be in natural lighting. By using her face and hair contrasting in black and white, it contines the colour scheme used on the page, making it much more matched therefore presented well.
The main image of Lily, is placed at the right hand side of the double page spread. The shot used of her is a medium shot, which shows Lily from her waist up. The way Lily is posing also suggests the attitude of the article, which in this case is her dominating the page, by Lily leaning forward towards the reader, shows she doesnt care about people think or the opions they have on her.
The costume Lily is wearing can also represent her attitude and personality. By using a red shirt, this could reflect her firery personality and her the fact that she wants to stand out from any other artist. Editing the image also makes it stand out from the page, therefore attracting the audiences attention to her and the quote beside her. The quote that is used 'People think I'm an attention seeker, but I'm just honest' dominates at least three quaters of the page which goes from the left hand side to the image of Lily at the right hand side. This quote has been picked out of the interview for a particular reason, in which it could represent and reflect Lily's attitude towards people who critsise her, and also shows her personality through this, therefore catching the readers attention so that they want to read more of the interview. The letters and font used varies in sizes. Some of the lettering are in upper case and some are in lower case, however not the the correct way they are supposed to be used. The upper case letters are dotted in each word randomly giving the quote an edge creating vartiety. It could also reflects Lily herself as a person, making her unique and different to other artists. By doing this it attracts the audience, they will want to see her other opionions and feelings on the media and the subject beein represented through the interview. All the features used are to make the magazine alot more sucessful by catching the audiences attention. The quote and picture bring the two pages together, by carring the quote on to the other page joins them together to make a well presented double page spread.

This is a double page spread from the magazine 'Rolling Stone' which features the band, The Killers.
This double page spread is mainly, one big image, of all 4 members of the band. The image is in black and white which makes the band's faces whiter and makes them stick out from the page, it also does this with their hands, this is important because they are all making the same shame with their hands abit like a claw, this could symbolise there attitudes and feelings about music and the hand action could symbolise that they want to get out of the page, therefore could mean that they want to explore music. All the members of the band are looking in different directions however the singer of the band (3rd from the left) is looking diredctly into the camera, and is more towards the camera than the others behind him. This tells the audience who the singer is and also the eye contact would catch the eyes of the audience therefore bringing them to there attention so that they would read the article.
They is very little text on this page, the main headline reads 'The Killers' and 'Inside' below in smaller text. The headline 'The Killers' is the name of the band, which informs the reader about what and who the article is going to be about. It is in big blocked lettering, and is the biggest text on the page, and the most important.

Textual Analysis Front Covers

This magazine i am analysing is called NME, it is a indie, rock magazine. It is a British magazine that is published and released every week. The language used on this front cover, and throughout the magazine, is very informal and the layout on the front cover is very compact. There is a big headline that reads 'LILY ALLEN TAKES ON THE WORLD' this is done in bigger bolder fonts that the other headline and plugs on the page. The colour of this main headline is black and white. A white font on a black background, this helps the headline stand out even more because of the contrast of colours. Red and yellow are also used on the front cover, again these colours are bright, and eye catching which encourages the audience to buy the magazine because they are able to see clearly what is going on in the magazine and who they are talking about. Representation of colours are also used, red, black and white, represent the genre of rock because they are stereotypically related to rock. These 3 colours help give the magazine a more dramatic edge to the stories, and help it stand out.
The audience of this magazine is:
Male = 69%
Female = 31%
Average age = 24
Working full time = 52%
Working part time = 7%
Students = 29%
abc1 = 65%
http://www.ipcmedia.com/mediainfo/nme.pdf

These statistics show that both men and women buy the magazine, however the percentages how that men are more likely to buy it. Lily Allen is also used to attract males, but can also take interest of females, who like her music, which shows that the magazine has no particular target gender. The average age of the people who by the magazine is 24, again this shows us a target audience of quite younger people.
The title of the magazine has been abbreviated to NME from new musical express. By doing this it gives the magazine a much shorter, catcher and noticeable name for the magazine. It also allows the audience to remember the magazine name, because it is short. This magazine features different types of music genres, however focuses on a rock and indie genre more than others. On the front cover, the picture of Lily Allen represents the rock genre by the costume and lighting used. Her hair is darker and the costume used is red which is also a stereotypical colour for the rock genre. The lighting used makes Lily's face much lighter than it would be, which makes the dark makeup around her eyes stand out allot more than it would of done if the lighting wasn't so bright, again this gives the magazine a much more rock image, even though the songs Lily Allen sings are not the rock genre. It helps establish to the audience what type of magazine this is, and what is featured inside it.

This second magazine i am analysing is Rolling Stone. This magazine features all different music genres. It originates from America, and normally features American artists, and actors/actress's, politics and popular culture and is published every 2 weeks. The magazine colours, are much more suttle than the ones used on the NME cover, They include a grey/blue coloured background and, the colours for the headlines are either, red, black, white and a light blue. It is also less crowed with headlines than NME. The main picture is of Angelina Jolie, she is an actress from America. By using actors featured in the magazine it appeals to much larger audience, because if a customer wasn't much into music, but liked films, this magazine could appeal to them as well. The magazine has an advantage by doing this.
The main picture is covering part of the masthead, this gives the impression that the magazine is so well known it doesn't need to show all of the masthead, it establishes how popular the magazine is. The picture also establishes what gender this magazine is aimed for, by using an attractive female, male are more likely to buy the magazine therefore, the magazines main audience depends on who and what is on the front of the magazine. For this particular magazine, men are more likely to buy it because it has an women on it, however if it featured an attractive male on the front, women would be more likely to buy. Therefore the audience of this magazine varies on the features of each magazine published every 2 weeks. This also gives the magazine an advantage of gender audiences and the a variety of storeys, and features they can include in the magazine, making the magazine alot more interesting and popular.
The headline 'The HOT list 99' is the most eye catching of all the headlines included on the front cover. All the words in this headline are all different colours, 'The' is coloured black and is rather small font, were as the word 'HOT' is the biggest in the headline and is bright red, this is a stereotypical colour for the word Hot, as many things that are hot, go red, for example, fire ect. Also the colour red, is linked to romance and sex, and in this case the context the word 'hot' is referring to is on how attractive the people are, featured in a list.
The main picture, of Angelina Jolie is placed in the centre of the page, with headlines placed around here, along the sides of the page. By doing this, Angelina dominates the whole page in contrast with the headlines, therefore the feature of her which is included in the magazine is much more important than other, and is the main story. Also the 'THE HOT LIST '99' headline could be referring to Angelina Jolie, and may indicate that she is featured in the list. We could suggest this by the way she is posing, in a seductive way, and is also wearing very little, therefore men would see her as 'hot'

Top of the pops is aimed at young teens aged 12 - 15 years old and has said to be the best top selling young teen gossip magazine.
The magazine includes a pop star interview and a picture on the front cover, gossip, fashion trends and beauty tips. It also includes a poster of a popular celebrity which is aimed so that readers will pin it to there walls. Top of the pops regularly use bright colours such as bold, pinks and yellows, colours which stand out. The colour pink is very frequently used on the front cover, which tells us about the gender of the audience the magazine is mainly aimed at young girls, we know this because the colour pink is a stereotypical colour which represents girls.
The use of bright, bold colours is also used so that the magazine is in contrast against other magazines, it draws the eyes of the audiences, attracting buyers. The poster included within the magazine acts as a entertaining, treat for the audience, this will also attract buyers. On the front of the magazine, the front cover establishes who the celebrity is this week by putting a main image of that celebrity directly in the middle of the front cover, which in this case is the newest winner of X Factor, Alexandra Burke and its main headline underneath the picture of Alexandra is 'HOW I BEAT MY BULLIES' This could be seen as giving advice to the audience by the use of a iconic celebrity. Also The X Factor was a very popular show, and the fact Alexandra won it means that she is popular, therefore buyers are more likely to buy the magazine.
As well as the main image, the front cover consists of other stories that are included in the magazine, informing of that other stuff is in the magazine which persuades buyers. They has also included The Jonas Brothers' and JLS (x factor finalist) Which are also very popular with the targeted audience, encouraging them more to buy the magazine. It Also includes a A-list looks to buy count down, which indicates fashion which is also very popular with the target audience.
Alexandra Burke image is covering part of the title 'Top of the pops' which also indicates, that the magazine is confident enough to do this, because the magazine is well known.

Key Concepts

Appling key concepts to my music magazine will help me to develop it further. I am using the acronym LIIAR: language, institution, ideology, audience and representation.

Language
The language used on a music magazine, or any other magazine needs to be advertising to its audience. This means it needs to be bold, bright, and have a short but snappy name for the magazine . Bold and bright so it stands out and catches the audience eye but short and snappy so the audience recognise and remember the name of the magazine, which may mean it will be come more popular to a regular audience. Colours of the main headlines may be used to theme the magazine for example if it was a pop magazine it would be bright and cheerful because pop music is generally happy music and also aimed for a younger audience, were as heavy music magazine such as kerrang tend to use more darker colours. this helps symbolise the type of music the magazine is representing and also its audience.

Institution
Well known magazines such as NME and Kerrang are published by companies such as future and IPC. It is my aim for my magazine is to tell the intrests of my audience what is going on in that particular music genre but also the music industry as a whole. I will also be concemplating new artist new to the genre and upcoming events that the audience may be interested in. I will also add other little details such as what other bands have been doing to keep the audience up to date and to keep them interested.

Ideology
The idelology for music magazine such as NME, is to share the interest and inform its targetted audience of the issues and events that are happeneing in the music industry but also the sperficic music genre, it also promotes the music genre by advertising it in such magazines. Its aim is also to entertain readers whilst raising these issues, by doing so the magazine is to gain a regular audience. NME also promotes new artists in that music genre and also keeps the audience updated on artist that are more established in the music industry. Using this ideology i can apply it to my own magazine, even though i am using a different genre to NME the same ideology can be applied to it, helping promote and inform the audience of my own music magazine.

Audience
The audience that my magazine will be targetted for is children and teenagers ages 8 - 14. My magazine genre is pop and alot of young children and teenagers like the pop genre. This means that i will have to use the language and other aspects to suit children for example extravigant colours and bold writing so that it applys to them but also applies to there parents so that they recgonise that this magazine is suitable for them to look at.

Respresentation
The representation presented in a music magazine establishes the music genre it is about. Magazines such as 'HipHop Collection' use the type of music to appeal to a certain audience. However music magazine such as 'Rolling Stone' talks about a bigger vartiety of music genres presennted within it which means that it is going to have a bigger audience that all like different music genres. The magazine will also represent the artist or group on the front cover so that the audience can see what type of genre it is representing, and it will appeal to the right audience For example if the targetted audience is mainly young women, the magazine will place a picture of an artist or group which contain young women so that the audience can relate to them. If the magazine represents music groups they will place a group picture on the front of the magazine so it will appeal to an audience that like music groups.

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

In what ways does your Media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product includes real media conventions a magazine needs to be sucessful. Conventional aspects such as a masthead, headlines, plugs, photograph, sub-heading, bar codes, date, and a price all make the magazine come together, to make it more sucessful. To develop my magazine knowledge, i needed to research all different genre types, such as fashion, music and gossip. I needed to see what all these magazines have in common, which was the main conventions of a magazine, this helped me to transfer these aspects on to my own magazine to make it presentable and sucessful.

How does your Media product represent particular social groups ?
My media product, was aimed at one social group in particular. As my magazine was a college one, this means that my magazine was aimed at students as a social group. By using a student to model for my main image establishes what group it was aimed for, the props used in the image also gives an idea of how my magazine represents a social group, in this case it was a book, of a particular subject that a student may study at college. However i did not focus on one subject for this magazine, it was an overall college magazine that would cover all aspects of college such as different subjects, upcoming advents, and achievements within the college.
In sub-headings i advertised an avent that had took place at the college, this was a fashion show, by doing this it attracted people that take textiles as a subject, therefore attracting different social groups.

What kind of Media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My college magazine would be distributed by the college it was based on, and in this case it would be Wyke College. They would sell it, or give out copies of my magazine to advertise the college, to gain new students to attend the college. It will also advertise upcoming advents that5 the college had arranged such as trips and college parties to the students that already attend the college, so that they can make them sucessful. The magazine will also focus on the sucess and grades that the students are getting in particular subjects, which could persuade parents of students and also the students that this college is sucessful, therefore they should attent it. Rumour will also feature aspects such as gossip and social matters that may of been brought to attention in college, this will attract the readers to buy the magazine which means that income from the magazine will go on equipment for the college and other stuff to make the college more sucessful.

Who would be the audience for your Media product?

The audience i have aimed my product as, is mainly at students inside the college and outside college. It is aimed at both male and female genders, which means there is something for both different genders that may attract there interest. It will be also targetted at students that have just left school and are looking for a college to go to. My college magazine is based on a variety of topics and aspects that would be found within a college, this means that because of the variety of topics a much larger scale of people would be interested in reading it.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted and addressed my audience by using aspects on the front cover of the magazine that students will be able to relate to, for example the model i have used on the front cover is the same age as the students that would read my magazine, this would attract them by providing a student role model for them therefore it is something they can relate to. Another aspect of the magazine is that the colour used are not gender typical, for example there are a different range of colours which gives the empression that the magazine is for both males and females, this will attract the audience, by ensuring them it is not just a one gender magazine. The language used can also attract the audience. By keeping the text short and snappy, the audience's attention will be caught but it would not bore them with long texts.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt how to present my work on this website we are using, which is blogger. I have also learnt how to use photoshop and how to use all the equipment that it provides on that programme, using this it has made my magazine much more sucessful, and improves how my magazine was presented.

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Throughout the preparation for making my own product, i have learnt how to anaylise magazines detail, and i have learnt the main conventions of a magazine. I now understand that all the conventions and the layout used on a magazine give meaning and purpose to the whole magazine and also estbablish the genre of the magazine and the audience it is aimed at. I also understand the importance of the length and the language used on a magazine, to make a magazine sucessful, and appealing to the audience. This task has also given me an oppertunity to experience using the technology that is needed to make the magazine sucessful. I now think i am prepared to make other magazines without anyproblems, and i have gained knowledge and understanding of how a magazine is put together and how it is published.
